The finale of The Voice SA is here. This week Sunday, 22 May, fans of M-Net’s much-talked about new singing contest will find out which of the show’s four coaches – Karen Zoid, Bobby van Jaarsveld, Lira and Kahn Morbee – has produced the very first Voice of South Africa.
And there’s some good news for DStv Compact viewers: Instead of having to wait for the weekly repeats, the live finale will be simulcast on M-Net 101 and M-Net City, channel 115, between 17:00 and 19:00 on Sunday.
While the voting public had up until Thursday (19 May) at 22:00 to show their support for the eight remaining singers, the voting lines will open for a short period of time again on Sunday, giving the finalists the opportunity to add votes – and maybe even the deciding ones – to those they have already garnered since last week Sunday’s show. During Sunday’s live finale, however, fans will not be able to vote by SMS or via The Voice SA App. The only voting platforms that will be active are WeChat and The Voice SA website – www.mnet.tv/thevoice – and mobi site. As per usual, fans will be able to vote 100 times on each of these platforms.
“So be sure that you’re all set up and registered on these platforms if you want to back your favourite performers during Sunday night’s show. As soon as the finalists, as determined by this week’s votes, are announced, host Lungile will open those voting lines,” says M-Net’s Head of Publicity, Lani Lombard.
This week’s show will also feature guest stars Vusi Mahlasela and popular Afrikaans singer Riana Nel, as well as some special collaborations, which might just include some or all of the coaches!
The eight talent who stand in line to clinch the sought-after title of The Voice SA, as well as a recording contract from Universal Music SA and more than R800 000 worth of prizes are:
#TeamKaren’s powerhouse diva and “Queen” Thembeka Mnguni (32) from Durban and former fitter-and-turner apprentice from Stilfontein, Almur Marais (25);
#Team Bobby’s Gavin Edwards (37), whose The Voice SA single is currently no 2 on the iTunes charts and popular blind singer Vernon Barnard (22);
#Team Lira’s Zoë Modiga (22), who has brought the house down more than once with her outstanding performances and family man Jeremy Olivier (40) from Cape Town;
#Team Kahn’s UJ student with the deep voice Clemour (24) and the cool Capetonian Richard Stirton (22), who has moved all the way to the top on the iTunes charts this week.
