The Idols SA audition tour will be rolling into the capital city on Saturday, 6 February, in search of Mzansi’s newest singing sensation. Thousands of wanna-be popstars are expected to flock to the State Theatre to try their luck in front of the notoriously picky Idols judges.
With more than 2000 (two thousand) people converging at Durban’s Playhouse to kick off the Season 12 auditions, Pretoria will have to up the stakes and bring their A-game to beat that.
“Pretoria is our next stop on the Idols audition tour and the challenge is on,” says Idols SA presenter and co-executive producer Proverb. “If you believe you are the next Karabo (Mogane, Idols SA 2015 winner) or even better, then this is your chance.”
With the famous snaking queues of Idols SA, eager hopefuls have been known to bring sleeping bags to camp overnight outside the audition venue or make their way through in the early morning hours. This year should be no different as the production prepares to open the floodgates.
The charismatic Proverb, who celebrated 10 years in the music industry last year and knows all about the struggle of “making it”, has some sage advice for those who might still be in two minds about attending. “Perhaps you’ve missed an opportunity before, or weren’t the right age or the stars just didn’t align…well, now is the time to take your moment. If you believe, then act! Come to the auditions at the State Theatre and claim what’s rightfully yours – a shot at the big time! See you there,” says the much-loved presenter.
Who are we to argue with that!
Don’t forget to bring a copy of your ID to the audition, and minors must remember to have signed consent from a parent or guardian in order to take part.
Entry is free and open to all South African citizens who are between 16 and 30 years old on the date of their first audition.
