Joel Jansen van Vuuren, Anél Botha, Vanya Mangaliso and Heidi du Toit to dress Miss South Africa finalists and former Miss South Africa winners at the dazzling Miss South Africa Pageant to be held at Carnival City on Saturday, March 19.
Anél Botha of Anél Botha Couture dressed Refilwe Mthimunye at the Miss Universe pageant last year. She will be designing the evening gowns for the crowning scene of this year’s Miss South Africa pageant. She reveals that the colour palette for her dresses is metallic: “I have had the pleasure of working with the finalists on their road to the Miss South Africa crowning event. This has allowed me to get to know each of them and what they stand for and like to wear. Fabric has played a big role in deciding what to make. My overall desire in designing has been to create dresses which are feminine and soft with lots of movement.”
Vanya Mangaliso of Sun Goddess says it is a huge honour to be dressing the finalists for the Miss South Africa Pageant: “We are keeping the designs under wraps until the big day. But to give a bit of clue, the collection has a retro feel and a bit of vintage.”
Heidi du Toit will showcase her innovative era based fashion style during the opening sequence: “The fashion line is inspired by 18th century Parisian fashion silhouettes, whilst boasting a rich colour palette and fabulous contemporary textures and design.”
Joel Jansen van Vuuren will be dressing the six former Miss South Africa winners who have mentored this year’s finalists. They are Bernelee Daniell (1995), Joan Ramagoshi Madibeng (2003), Sonia Raciti Oshry (1998), Thuli Sithole (2005), Yolanda Kloppers Ward (1978) and Wilma van der Bijl (1987). Says Van Vuuren: “Each dress will be custom made for them to keep. The inspiration for each gown is all about the person wearing it and it is a close collaboration of their taste with my design and craftsmanship. The dress is always meant to enhance the natural beauty of the wearer and wow the audience at the same time.”
The Miss South Africa 2016 finalists are Elizabeth Molapo (Bloemfontein, Free State); Felicia Muwayi (Nelspruit, Mpumalanga); Luyolo Mngonyama (Umtata, Eastern Cape); Marciel Hopkins (Paarl, Western Cape); Mikaela Oosthuizen (Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape); Ntandoyenkosi Kunene (Mkhondo, Mpumalanga); Reabetswe Sechoaro (Pretoria East, Gauteng); Ronette Chambers (Cape Town, Western Cape); Sarah Botes (Vanderbijlpark, Gauteng); Schané Venter (Alberton, Gauteng); Sharon-Rose Khumalo (Pretoria, Gauteng) and Tayla Skye Robinson (Roodepoort, Gauteng).
