The show’s Little Miss Dynamite was sent packing in a week that produced a record-setting 7.5 million votes.

This brings the total number of votes cast for this season to more than 32 million, which is already way more than last year’s entire season grand total of 24 million.

“The support for this year’s show is absolutely astonishing,” says M-Net’s Head of Publicity, Lani Lombard. “The votes just keep on rolling in week after week — and this is of course fantastic news for our contestants.

Even if you leave the show now you can rest assured that you have a loyal fan base behind you. We won’t be surprised if many of this year’s Top 10 contestants will remain to be household names for many years to come.”

Until tonight’s departure Dineo wowed the country with her boundless energy and will to succeed. Following a botched attempt to get into the Idols Top 16 for its historical tenth season last year, Dineo returned with gusto to the Johannesburg auditions this season, touching the judges – and audience – with her determination to make it big in the industry. “It’s like I’m trapped in a tank and the only way out is go to Johannesburg, go to audition, and get that Golden Ticket,” she confided before her audition.

At Sun City she blew everyone’s socks off with her stunning performance of Ariana Grande’s “Break Free”, prompting Unathi to say: “This is your time, Dineo …”.

In the Top 10 Spectacular on 20 September her rendition of Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space” earned her a standing ovation from judge Somizi Mhlongo, and he was equally ecstatic about her performance of the Beyoncé hit “Broken Hearted Girl” in the Top 9 show. “You owned the room!” he told her then. “Everyone else wears pacemakers and you ran!”

Randall Abrahams loved Dineo’s take on the Bryan Adams ballad “Heaven” in the Eighties-themed Top 8 Spectacular, but by the “Showstopper” Spectacular for Top 7, the judges were all very disappointed by her staging of the Ariana Grande song “One Last Time”. “You’re becoming one-dimensional now,” Somizi complained.

Dineo’s final performance as an Idols SA contender came in the Top 6 Spectacular on 18 October, when she sang Lauryn Hill’s “Ex-Factor” and Beatenberg’s “Rafael” in the “90’s vs Today” Spectacular
